MATERIALS-Required Daily
- One 1 ½ -2 inch durable binder
- Pens, pencils and highlighters
- 2 notebook dividers
- 3 x 5 Index Cards
GRADING * As per Sachem Middle School Science Department Policy
Tests: 50% of total quarterly grade
Quizzes/Labs/Projects: 40% of total quarterly grade
Homework/Classwork/Participation: 10% of total quarterly grade
- Tests will be given at the end of each unit of study. They will cover concepts taught in that unit. However, some tests may also include review material from previous units as well. Since tests cover the largest portion of the grading, it is important that they are prepared for properly. Completion of homework, studying throughout the unit, attending extra help, asking questions and participating in class will all assist in preparation. If a student is absent the day of a review, they are still required to take the test the day they return. If a student is absent the day of a test, they are required to take it the day they return unless other arrangements have been previously made.
- Quizzes, labs and projects will be completed throughout each unit. Occasionally, a homework may be graded as a quiz. In-class quizzes, much like tests, will be made up upon return of the student unless other arrangements have been made. If a lab or project is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to make it up. If the missed lab or project is not completed by a specified due date, it will be marked as a zero.
- Homework will be given on most nights and will be checked; although not all assignments will be written. Late homework will not be accepted for full credit except for excused absences. Homework will be accepted one day late for partial credit. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was done in class and what assignments you have missed. Please check my website to find what was missed while you were out.
- Classwork and participation includes being prepared with the necessary materials each day, coming to class on time and respectful/appropriate participation during class time.
EXTRA HELP
- Extra help will be provided whenever necessary. If a student is struggling and would like to discuss what can be done, please don’t hesitate to have your child ask. Part of the middle school experience is discovering what works for you as a student and what isn’t necessarily helpful. I encourage students to be advocates for themselves and to speak up if they feel they are having difficulties.

COMMUNICATION
I believe that we must work together to make this school year a successful one for your child. The agenda is an excellent communication device for both parents and teachers. Please check your child's agenda nightly. This is where the homework to be completed will be recorded. Please visit my website at http://bartalomyscience.weebly.com/where you can find calendars of assignments and important information. Please use the Parent Portal to stay current with your child’s grades on a weekly basis. I encourage all parents and students to communicate with me so that I may work with you to make this a great year for everyone. As always, I can be reached by email address [email protected] .
